On to Wassenaar. September 15

Today was a rather uneventful short day of only 13 km. This was just as well because a rock band was playing on the beach outside our window last night until at least midnight. So our sleep was a bit short. It was still very warm today, as well. We were very glad that we skipped going through The Hague. We were lucky that the trail meandered through shady woods for the most part. And around noon we came across a pancake house with cosy outdoor patios, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The Dutch are so civilized and seem to know what is needed at just the right time.
We got out of the circus that is Scheveningen just in time and are now in a lovely hotel surrounded by leafy trees. We have a nice big room so that we can spread our junk around a bit. We are almost three km off the Kustpad so tomorrow morning we have to backtrack to the pancake barn.
Jeff's back and left leg are holding up really well as is my right leg. It sometimes likes to give way. A funny little spasm in the quad. We don't walk very fast but just keep going at a steady pace. No blisters at all yet, at this point! I do have a mysterious rash on both my legs just above the ankles. Self-diagnosis leads me to think it could be: stinging nettles, heat rash or an allergic reaction to my new icebreaker wool socks. No itch, thankfully. Just ugly!
We caught no glimpse of the sea at all today but that will be remedied tomorrow when we walk to Katwyk aan Zee, also a resort town but definitely no Ferris wheel.

  1. Glad to hear that Jeff's back is holding up well with all that walking through soft sand! We are still enjoying beautiful weather in the mid 20's. Have a great day tomorrow!

    1. We have walked three days now and have covered 45 km. Total is 213km. We walk at a casual pace because it has been so warm here. We could do it in 10 days but have arranged for 15 plus a few rest days at places along the sea and in Haarlem. We are having fun!

    1. Don't know how you did the PP in that heat in July. Last night a small thunderstorm rolled through so things have hopefully cooled a bit. We have been sauntering along up to now. And you are right. Look around and savour the moment we are in. And listen and smell, too. About yo get up and begin another day!
