We joyfully arrived at the lovely cafe in the woods, De Kruisberg, and rewarded ourselves with apple tart. With whipped cream.
When we are back on our way it happens again!!!! Lost. Can't find the markers. This time we put Johanna's Hof, our lunch spot, in Jeff's phone and away we go like Hobbits on tiny forest trails. We get there and Jeff has a big beer!!!
Lucky, in the afternoon we fared much better. We even took a few short cuts. We passed through lovely dune scenery and then up a big dune and down again, on wooden slats, and there was the sea, blinking at us in the sunshine. Really marvellous. By this time we were sore and tired and still had to make our way several km on the beach to Egmond aan Zee, which we could see far in the distance. Walking on beaches does not appeal to me too much because it seems like you don't get anywhere. But I knew that if we kept walking we would eventually get there. We told the lady at the check in at our accommodation that we had walked from Wyk aan Zee. Then she promptly asked us if we had a car with us. Yes, we dragged it over the dunes. LOL
Now we are cleaned up and feeling much better. It is still lovely weather and the town looks interesting so we will have fun exploring a bit tomorrow. Yes, another rest day. We have more days than we needed so we are staying an extra night in some of the beach towns.
I also included a photo of yesterday's mussels.

Lovely pictures of the path to the beach....such beautiful lighting.....what a pain to get lost all the time......you guys are having an adventure for sure
ReplyDeleteThis was our last long day. It will get shorter and easier now, we hope. Four walking days left, to Den Helder.
DeleteLooks like you are having a wonderful time, and no rain! I once did a day trip by bicycle from Alkmaar to Egmond wan Zee to Wijk aan Zee to Beverwijk then back to Alkmaar along the bike paths. Very nice! Are you having any head winds at all? Enjoy your day tomorrow. We just came back from breakfast with B&D and Kelly & Chris in Abby. Very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteHave had practically no wind. Yesterday a little bit from the south west and we heard forl the first time a soft roar from the sea. There has been no surf, either. It is an unusually September but we'll take it! LOL
DeleteBeautiful pictures today Chris and Jeff :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janette. We have been so lucky with the weather. Still carrying our rain jackets, though.
