Wow, what a first day! Holland is having a heat wave! Unusual for September but we are glad we can enjoy it.
After breakfast at the Schiphol airport hotel we figured out how to get to Hoek van Holland by train. This involved going up and down the escalator a few times and then standing in line for a while to get tickets. Once we were on the train it was easy, even with a transfer.
My map book has just a few coffee cups on it so we picked the third one we found. We should have waited because just around the corner there were at least twenty or so establishments waiting to serve us whatever. That was because of the nice weather.
We encountered many Dutch people in bathing suits (or not), enjoying the beach weather.
We walked along the beach, barefoot, for several km before deciding it might be time to turn off. And, indeed, there was our hotel, the Elzenduin. We were looked after again.
Being worried about wind and rain proved ridiculous because it was hot and no rain. A breeze would have been nice. Sometimes we had to walk on soft, hot sand but luckily not for long! That's when I had a "Hagar moment".
Tomorrow, Scheveningen!

Very nice pics, Chris! What a beautiful start to your walk! Over the past number of years I have walked most of the beach shown in your pics, but never in such glorious sunshine! Enjoy your walk tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou should be a travel writer....loved a "semi with wings". That bitterballen and bier must have been refreshing after a long hot walk along the beach. Look forward to your future posts.
